Outstanding Seniors for December 

Outstanding Seniors Recognized at December School Board Meeting

Shannon Myers and Shaun Howard were recognized as outstanding seniors at the December School Board meeting.

Shannon, daughter of Gregory and Misuk Myers of Lake Ariel, maintains her rank in the top 10 of her class while balancing an extraordinarily demanding schedule of academic and extracurricular demands.

Shannon’s academic schedule includes two Advanced Placement courses, honors physics, and advanced studio art.  In addition, as a junior, she earned college credit for an AP English course and took honors chemistry and honors pre-calculus.

Shannon has served in numerous leadership positions in the school: vice president of her freshman class, and president of her sophomore and junior class, secretary of the National Art Honor Society as a junior, currently activity coordinator; and treasurer of the National Honor Society as a junior, and currently president. She was a HOBY ambassador and a member of Tomorrow’s Leaders Today.

A four-year member of Future Business Leaders of America, she has won awards at the state level in word processing and public speaking, and served as Region 22 Secretary for two years; she is a member of the National Business Honor Society.

Shannon is a member of the cross-country (a senior captain), soccer, indoor track, and outdoor track teams; named to the Lackawanna League All –Star Team for the 3200m in her sophomore year, Shannon also was a District Championship qualifier and medalist for outdoor track for three years.

Her visual art talents have been recognized with a Scholastics American Visions Award for her watercolor “Gazer” and a Silver Key Award for her mixed media “Queen of Hearts”. She was recently named a WVIA Art Student of the Month.

This past summer, Shannon completed the Air Force Academy Seminar and the Coast Guard Academy Seminar.  She plans to attend either the Coast Guard Academy or the Air Force Academy.

Shaun, the son of Christian and Angela Howard of Lake Ariel, is currently ranked 4th in the senior class. He has made the Distinguished Honor Roll throughout high school and the Principal’s List 2010-2011. He balances a challenging academic schedule of three Advanced Placement classes—World History, English Language, and Calculus.

Shaun is treasurer of the National Honor Society, a member of the National Society of High School Scholars, the Technology Student Association, the Local History Club, and the school newspaper Planet Wildcat.

He has competed in Science Olympiad and placed in the top ten at the regional level and is a four-year member of Future Business Leaders of America, placing in the top three at regional conferences, top ten at two state conferences, and fifth at the national conference.

This past summer he worked assisting a teacher in the district using LEGO Mindstorms Educational kits to teach students to produce and program robots with NXT engineering software, implementing light, sound, ultrasonic, and touch sensors to execute tasks.

Shaun’s interest include computer programming and repair, electronics, graphic design, 3D animation, performing and writing music, automobiles, antiques, reading, and video production. He plans to attend Vanderbilt University to major in computer science and finance.
