While other students were vacationing or working part-time jobs during the summer, nine Western Wayne students were developing their creativity at Arts Alive, an intensive arts institute for the visual and performing arts, recognized with the “Pennsylvania’s Best Practices” Award and the “Regional Summer School of Excellence” Award. Students in 9th through 12th grades and teachers participate in a four-week program (five days/24 hours a week) of intensive study of either a performing or visual art. Their efforts culminated in a show held at the Scranton Cultural Center. Students are accepted into the program based on their technical skill, expression, strong work ethic, their desire to continually improve, a willingness to explore various art forms, and an eagerness to work with others.
