Consultative Model:
The Wayne County Consortium for Early Intervention utilizes the Consultative Model. Interventions for young children with disabilities are more effective when the adults involved form collaborative partnerships. That’s why consultation – a systematic process to help professionals, childcare providers, and parents work together to address concerns and identify goals – is so important. The Consultative Model is used with all children that are in typical settings including; preschools, daycares, Head Start, and Pre-K Counts.
Competent Learner Model:
The Competent Learner Model is utilized in the Hamlin Elementary Early Intervention Classroom. All of the staff in the room, including the teacher, speech therapist and paraprofessionals, have been extensively trained in this model. The Competent Learner Model is a multi-component package for addressing the individual learning needs of children who have difficulty participating in typical learning environments. The curriculum provides instruction in skill development that serves as a foundation for academic standards.
